This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains how the VoiceBear Team (“VoiceBear,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and protects information in connection with the VoiceBear application and related features and services (collectively, the “Service”). By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Policy.
1. Scope
1.1 This Policy applies to all users of the Service on supported Apple platforms (including, without limitation, macOS and iOS).
1.2 This Policy forms part of the terms governing your use of the Service and should be read together with in-app notices, feature prompts, and related policies, where applicable.
2. Key Principles
2.1 No account required. The Service does not require account registration for core use.
2.2 Data minimization. We process information only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide, operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Service.
2.3 No advertising use. We do not use your audio or transcripts for targeted advertising, cross-app tracking, or marketing profiling, and we do not sell your personal data.
3. Definitions
For the purposes of this Policy:
(a) “Audio Data” means voice or audio input you record or upload when using transcription features.
(b) “Transcribed Text” means text generated from Audio Data.
(c) “De-identified Data” means data processed using reasonable measures to remove or reduce information that could directly identify you.
(d) “Free Plan” means a free usage tier that provides limited access to certain features or usage allowances, as displayed in the Service.
(e) “Unlimited On-device Plan” means an optional one-time purchase that unlocks expanded usage capacity for on-device transcription across supported platforms associated with the same Apple ID, as described in the App Store and in-app.
(f) “Cloud Features” means features that require transmission of relevant data to servers operated by us and/or third-party service providers (e.g., cloud ASR or cloud LLM processing).
4. Information We Process
4.1 Core transcription processing. To provide transcription and related functions, the Service processes:
(a) Audio Data; and
(b) Transcribed Text.
4.2 Technical and operational data. We may process technical information reasonably necessary to operate and secure the Service, such as diagnostic logs, performance metrics, and aggregated usage indicators.
4.3 Information we do not require for core use. Core transcription does not require you to provide your name, phone number, or email address. The Service does not require you to provide third-party sign-in credentials (e.g., passwords).
5. How We Process Your Audio and Text
5.1 On-device processing. Where technically supported, the Service can perform speech recognition and certain post-processing directly on your device using local models. In this mode, Audio Data and Transcribed Text are processed on your device and are not transmitted to our servers solely for the purpose of performing that on-device processing.
5.2 Cloud processing. Some features rely on cloud-based processing. When you use Cloud Features, the relevant Audio Data and/or Transcribed Text will be transmitted to servers operated by us and/or our service providers, and processed only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide those features, maintain service reliability, prevent abuse, and improve quality in accordance with this Policy and applicable agreements.
5.3 Feature-level notice and consent. Where a feature requires cloud processing, we may present in-app prompts, notices, or contextual disclosures describing the nature of such processing. Your use of the relevant feature constitutes your instruction to process the necessary data for that feature.
6. Plans and Data Use
6.1 Free Plan.
(a) Under the Free Plan, certain features or usage allowances may be limited as displayed in the Service.
(b) For the purpose of operating the Free Plan and improving recognition quality and service reliability, we may process and retain portions of Audio Data and Transcribed Text on servers operated by us and/or our service providers, and may use such information in de-identified or aggregated form for model training, quality improvement, and technical optimization.
(c) If you do not agree with such processing for the Free Plan, you may discontinue use of the Free Plan and/or use the Unlimited On-device Plan, subject to the terms described below.
6.2 Unlimited On-device Plan.
(a) The Unlimited On-device Plan is a one-time purchase that unlocks expanded on-device transcription usage across supported platforms associated with the same Apple ID, as described in the App Store and in-app.
(b) For core on-device transcription under the Unlimited On-device Plan, processing is performed primarily on-device. Except as strictly necessary to deliver the requested result, we do not upload or retain such core transcription content for our own model training or quality improvement purposes.
(c) This Plan does not prevent data transmission required for Cloud Features when you choose to use such features, including where processing is performed by third-party providers.
6.3 Future features. Unless expressly stated, the Unlimited On-device Plan does not include future premium models, new cloud-assisted capabilities, or additional paid features that may later be offered separately.
7. Third-Party Providers and Cloud Processing
7.1 Certain Cloud Features may be provided using third-party enterprise providers. When you use such features, relevant data must be transmitted to and processed by the applicable provider to perform the requested function.
7.2 We do not authorize third-party providers to use your content for purposes unrelated to providing the requested service to you, except as permitted by their applicable terms, security requirements, and legal obligations.
7.3 Where required, we will provide reasonable in-app disclosures regarding the involvement of third-party processing for specific features.
8. User-Provided API Keys and Responsibility
8.1 Certain Cloud Features may require you to supply your own API key issued by a third-party provider.
8.2 Your API key is stored locally on your device using the Apple Keychain (or equivalent secure storage mechanism available on the platform).
8.3 You are solely responsible for safeguarding your API key and for all activity, usage charges, and fees incurred through your API key.
8.4 To the maximum extent permitted by law, VoiceBear shall not be liable for any financial loss, charges, or damages arising from your disclosure, leakage, compromise, misuse, or unauthorized access of your API key.
9. Retention
9.1 We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including service operation, security, quality assurance, and improvement.
9.2 De-identified data used for quality improvement may be retained in aggregated form for model training and evaluation.
9.3 We periodically review and minimize retained data consistent with the purposes described herein.
10. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Choices
11.1 You may choose whether to use Cloud Features. If you do not wish to transmit data for cloud processing, you should not enable or use Cloud Features.
11.2 You may discontinue use of the Free Plan at any time.
11.3 You may purchase the Unlimited On-device Plan subject to App Store terms, which may unlock expanded on-device usage across supported platforms associated with the same Apple ID.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Updated versions will be made available within the Service and/or through our official Policy link. Your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes your acknowledgment of the revised Policy.
